Did
the rich and poor communicate/work together?
No, the rich and poor did not generally work together. The had
very different occupations, for the rich would usually receive tertiary
education earning them higher class jobs such as doctors and people working in
medicine or business men. But, the poor would not receive education after
primary and would work in the factories. Their two occupations would not
usually mix unless a rich man was the head of a factory. They would work in
town and not in the slums of Richmond where the poor would work. As for the
women, the rich would just work in their homes or with their other rich friends
and the poor women would work in the factories too or in their homes in the
slums, causing no contact between the rich and poor. The rich and poor children
would not mix either because the rich would either play in their gardens, or
would be forbidden to play in the town’s streets like the poor children did.
