Evolution of childhoods

For all children, how what was life like compared to previous years?

The dynamics for living had significantly changed compared to those of previous years, before the 1920s. Youths (who were usually old enough to work so 12+) would participate in new technology activities, for example; listening to the radio, going to the cinema and listening to pre-recorded music. Girls also had more freedom for what they wore, able to show their legs in clothing, wear makeup and go to the beach with boys in their swimsuits. Public events also became more popular for example when the new bridge was opened on Church st 1924, 50,000 people turned out. These events that were free but still fun became very popular for youths. Entertainment became popular in the 1920s after the war for everyone because most events were either very cheap or free. Going to the theatre to watch movies were popular for youths too, seeing new and exciting movies from Hollywood and was not just for the rich. Following the football (Australian rules) also became very popular, becoming a communal event down at Punt Road. It became socially acceptable for girls and women to become fanatical fans of the football too. During the 1920s, the upper class and lower class began to mix more than before, creating a much less visible barrier than before.
